The Inn River

Back in Innsbruck I went to the Inn River one day with Emily, Jen, Keri, Fabian, and Simon. I had never been down there before so they led the way.

It was so pretty but I forgot my camera.

So a few days later I went down there to lay out and study.

It is about a twenty minute walk but so worth it.

I remembered the camera this time.

The airport runway is also right next to this spot so when the planes come in it feels like they are going to land on you. It's awesome.

And I saw this little guy on the way home.. How cool is he?!

I don’t think it hit me until this day that I am actually living here.

I live in Innsbruck, Austria. And it is gorgeous.

What am I going to do back in the states when the only thing within a twenty minute walk is a walmart or starbucks and the only things along the way are streets and parking lots?

It’s going to be rough.

Spontaneous Salzburg

We had been back from Scotland for a few days and Ally and I woke up, imed each other and decided to go to Salzburg for the night. The train left in two hours so we hurried up and packed and jumped on the train.

We had some trouble finding our hostel but we finally got there. We checked in, found our beds, were looking at things to do, and then we met Amelia.

Amelia had been studying abroad in Salzburg this semester. She is from California and was getting ready to go to Spain to do a few weeks abroad there. Instant tour guide? HECK YES!

We just started wandering the city, but with some direction for once.

Amelia showed us the house that Mozart was born in…

The buildings here are literally built out of the sides of the mountains. While we were walking I was wondering what they do in the back of the buildings. They must not have any windows or natural light.

Next was a bier garden that is run by Monks! And there is a process, you go up and order what you want. I picked Radler. I am not sure if I have explained this before but it is a combination of bier and lemonade.

So I ordered my Radler and picked a large mug off of a shelf, went to a fountain, rinsed it out (I was told this helps the bier stick or something), a man then filled my mug half way up with bier and handed me a lemonade.

I went back over to my table, poured in the lemonade, and enjoyed.

After the Bier Garden we went to an Irish pub and had one drink, it was not very busy.

Then to another pub, which was having a band play that night. The three of us just sat around and talked and listened to the music.

Then we tried one more place that was having drink specials. It was busy and we stayed for a little while but then decided to go back to the hostel so we would be ready to sight see the next day.

Getting out of the door was not easy. For some reason it never is in Europe. You have to push people out of your way, yelling excuse me the entire time. I was doing this and then some drunken blonde, who was obviously trying obnoxiously hard to get some guy to take her home, throws her head back and hits me in the face. He probably told some really stupid joke and she wanted him to think she thought he was funny and apparently the only way to do that is to throw your head around in a crowded bar.

I was pissed.

I grabbed her arm, spun her around and glared in her face. For those of you that have spent a good amount of time with me know this can be a scary experience for anyone. There was no point in yelling because she couldn’t hear me anyway. So I continued to look at her like I was going to do something ridiculous.

She looked like she was about to cry and just started saying how sorry she was. So I just moved her out of my way and left the bar.

To all of my family members that read this blog, I kept the Ervin inside and under control once again! High-five to myself.

Once I got outside I took a picture of my face to make sure it was not massive yet. It was just a little red but I was fine. I think I was more annoyed by the fact that I was injured in the process of a blonde girl trying to get picked up.

On the way back to the hostel I saw, for the first time in Europe, a Hummer!

And I showed Ally and Amelia that there really is a button you can press under the cross walks. I am not sure if it changes the light or not but sometimes I feel it is necessary to push it anyway. Haha

You will also get a glimpse of how rude Canadians can be. A lot of people think this is impossible, but do I have news for you! You can hear, clear as day, Ally yelling at me because I don't always pronounce "T" in words like mittens, kittens, mountains, or buttons.

I could not be more excited that we met Amelia. It is so nice having someone that can show you a city! So let the Sound of Music-ness begin!

Wait, before we start, I would like to note that I still have not seen the Sound of Music. I blame my mom because she doesn’t like musicals.

Okay so first we went to this garden, I am told some scenes were filmed here.

This is the river…

This is a cafĂ© that Mozart wrote music in…

The city…

Some really cool guys…

A cemetery. I really like their head stones here, they are iron and most of them had little gardens on top of them, it was so different from anything I had seen before.

This hotdog was hilarious, not only does it look ridiculous but it was wrapped in an American flag. Classic.

Then we walked up to the castle. The journey up was so pretty!

But once we got up there we decided not to pay to get in so we headed back down.

Then we got on a bus and headed over to areas outside of the city. I think more of the Sound of Music was filmed over here also.

I saw another dog statue!

Ally and I found a swing set and it was probably the most fun I have had in a really long time.

After that excitement we frolicked in the rolling hills for a while…

Somewhere in the middle of all of this we realized that Amelia had to go to Munich on Sunday anyway so we just brought her home to Innsbruck with us. It was also Lara’s birthday so we knew we would all have a good time.
